High heat kanekalon is a type of synthetic fiber commonly used for festival and rave braid styles. It's quite durable and tough, and has a heat resistance of 250°F (120°C), sometimes higher, and tends to be a little bit more slinky and slippery than regular kanekalon. It comes in a considerably wider range of colors than regular kanekalon, though, so sometimes it's worth the effort to work with!
Due to the smoother texture, high heat kanekalon packs are less voluminous than packs of kk jumbo braid in the same weight. If you're using it for box braids, we recommend getting a couple more packs than you normally would use; most of our customers use around 8-14 packs of high heat for a full head of box braids.
Boiling water sometimes isn't quite hot enough to seal high heat kanekalon. High heat kanekalon does not shrink down like regular kanekalon, and will stay quite soft even when it's set.
We recommend using a steamer or a wet wash cloth and straightener to seal dreads rather than boiling water. For braids, it's best to seal the ends with rubber bands or thread, or use a damp cloth/straightener (like with dreads).
