RastAfri Highlight Braid is here, and it's a dread maker's multicolored dream come true!

Usually multicolored kanekalon is a bit difficult to seal, but this stuff is actually easy to work with. It reacts to boiling water and steam better than high heat kanekalon, ShapeShifter, and Lexy kk jumbo braid. It doesn't shrink down as much as regular kk jumbo braid, but it still holds its shape. It's also not spongey when sealed like high heat sometimes tends to do.

We tested out Off Black with Cornflower Blue Tips and made a regular braid, an open-ended braid, a twisted single-ended dread, and a knotty, slightly crochetted single-ended dread.

Here's what the tops looked like before sealing. From top to bottom, the extensions are the regular braid, the open-ended braid, the twisted dread, and the knotty dread.

And here's what the ends looked like. The dreads are backcombed pretty similar to one another at the bottom. The open-ended braid was tied off at the transition from braided to loose hair (same as the first step in our single-ended dread tutorial), and the regular braid was braided all the way down with nothing on the ends.

The regular braid held together nicely at the bottom and didn't need to be melted or tied off with thread to stay in place. We staggered the hair a bit to get it to have both colors throughout. You can get a great tie-dye effect by doing this with three-tone colors, or by mixing a few colors together in a single braid.

The open-ended braid was a little poofy at the ends after being dipped in water the first time; we got it straight like in the picture by holding the hair taut and straight, and pouring boiling water over it.

Both styles of dreads sealed nice and solid, and feel the same as dreads made from regular ol' solid colored kk jumbo braid.

Here's the finished product.  The dreads were sealed from top to bottom.  The braids were sealed at the ends and had the loops dunked in water, but the middle parts were left alone.

Some of the color names RastAfri chose for this line are a little strange, so we've renamed them to be a little more descriptive of what they actually look like -- for example there are two colors with "mint" in the name on the packaging that are straight up blue, not green or remotely minty. Check out the "color" part of the individual item descriptions on the product pages for details on our names for the colors versus the names on the packaging. The third and fourth images on each product page show the tags and labels on the packaging as well.

Since some of the new colors are duplicates for our own line of multicolored kanekalon, a few of the old versions are now on clearance for $4.00 per bag (regular price $8.00). Once the clearance colors sell out, we won't be making more of our own high heat and will be sticking with the RastAfri Highlight Braid for them instead.
