How to Make Swirled Dreads
There are many different ways to make swirled dreads, and over the years I've tried just about all of the ones I have come across. The below method is my favorite, but it is not by any means the only way to make swirls. The swirls in this tutorial will look someone natural because of the backcombing, rather than being perfect candycanes.

What You will Need
- Kanekalon jumbo braid - available here!
- A comb or backcombing brush - available here!
- A steamer or a kettle for boiling water

Instructions
1. Section off pieces of each of your colors of kanekalon jumbo braid. Each section should be about half of the amount you would use for one solid dread.

2. If you are making double-ended dreads, secure the middle of the dread and make sure the other end is out of the way. If you are making single-ended dreads, now is the time to make your loop at the top. For this tutorial, we'll be doing single-ended dreads.

3. Push one of your colors out of the way and backcomb the other.

4. Backcomb the second color.

5. Backcomb the ends of the colors together. Then, work your way upward and lightly backcomb the colors together throughout the length of the dread.

6. Twist and seal with steam or boiling water. Twist carefully to ensure that the colors show equally -- if you're not careful, one color will wrap around the other and make your swirls look uneven.

7. Seal the ends, and then you're done!
