Kanekalon Color Guide
In order to offer a wide selection of colors, we carry a lot of different brands here at I Kick Shins. Sometimes, that means that several completely different colors of hair will have the same name printed on the packaging. For example, Modu and Black N Gold both make a color called "hot pink." We sell one as "hot pink" and one as "neon magenta" because they're totally different from one another.

This guide was originally written to clarify name discrepancies, but we've also added a few general bits that apply to just about any hair you'll come across.

Natural Colors - Numbers?
Most natural black, brown, blonde, and auburn shades are numbered rather than named. These numbers tend to be grouped together by color and as the numbers increase, the colors get lighter. For example, most of the brown shades are between #2/darkest brown and #12/light brown. #2 is the darkest brown and #3 is slightly lighter than that. Each color becomes progressively lighter until you get to #12.

With a few exceptions, these colors are consistent across brands. That means that if your hair color matches up to one of the numbers, you can order from just about any company you want and there is a very good chance that the color will be the same.

This rule isn't set in stone, however. Beware of #144/gold, #60/silver white, and #613/platinum blonde. #144 can range anywhere from a very saturated, bright gold like the color we carry, to a brassy blonde. Zury's #144 falls into the latter category.

#613 mostly varies in how yellow it looks. 100% synthetic pp fiber tends to be a little lighter than its kanekalon counterpart. The difference isn't huge, but it's definitely there.

The warning about #60 mainly applies to human hair. #60 synthetics are pretty much always going to be the same color as the "silver white" on our color charts. However, human hair can range anywhere from a dark blonde with a silver tone to it to pure white. High quality #60 tends to be more toward blonde because of the minimal processing it goes through. If you're ever in the market for human hair in #60, we strongly recommend contacting sellers and asking for detailed descriptions of the color before committing to buying it, just to be sure :)

Unnatural/Fantasy/Party Colors
Unnatural colors, unfortunately, do not have a standard numbering system and can vary quite a bit across brands. The following list covers all of the solid unnatural colors we carry, along with brand and color names that we know match up to them. For details on the components of our blended unnatural colors, check out our blend guide. Please note that we do not carry all of the brands listed; some are just used for reference purposes.

If you know of other brands that match up to our color chart, please contact us and let us know!
